BAND ORIGINS
Nia and Sarah who hailed from West Wales had been jamming as musicians since the tender age of 13.They recruited Alex in 1997 and they performed as "Epik" until 1999 when Tim joined the band as drummer.
With a proper manager (Hubie Mathias) the band worked the local music circuit which included gigs then as far afield as Cardiff.
Honing their musical skills and on-stage performance, they siezed every opportunity to play live whilst penning their own compositions along the way.

GIGGING
Practice made perfect with the band's single Retrospect appearing on 100,000 copies of a free Student 123 CD and resulted in them touring 15 university venues to critical acclaim.
Jylt also played as support to notable bands like Landau, Thirst and a
memorable performance in support of Gorkys Zygotic Mynci.
With plays on Radio One including Steve Lamacq's playlist, the band were going places.

THE ENDING
Following a highly sucessful UK tour, interest in the band blossomed and led to a much warranted record deal. In August 2002 the band travelled to Leeds to lay down recordings of a few of their songs. Whilst working on what was to be their first single, Nia suddenly fell ill and the band was forced to cut short the planned studio time.

On returning home Nia's condition worsened leading to hospitalisation.Tests showed that she had developed Leukaemia so she was immediately transferred to a specialist hospital where she received intensive chemotherapy to counter the illness. Sadly, after eighteen months Nia lost her battle and passed away in February 2004.
During her illness the other band members attempted to keep the band together but her death weighed heavily on them leading to a decision that they could not continue without her.
THE JYLT LEGACY
With three songwriters in the band it is no surprise that there is a wonderful back catalogue of JYLT music to enjoy. Full of energy and emotion they were clearly ahead of their time musically. To see and hear them in addition to the videos on this website why not visit Youtube and type in "JYLT"

Enjoy!

Fortunately the surviving band members have played on. Sarah now performs to great acclaim as BRYDE and is now based in London .
